What is an IUD and how does it work?
An IUD (intrauterine device) is a small device that is placed inside the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
There are two main types:
- Hormonal IUDs, which release a small amount of hormones to prevent pregnancy
- Copper IUDs, which do not contain hormones and prevent fertilisation.
Both types are very effective and can prevent pregnancy for several years.
