There is very little difference between the terms STI and STD. STI means sexually transmissible infection, while STD means sexually transmitted disease.
Healthcare providers usually use the term STI because many infections do not cause symptoms or disease, especially in the early stages. You can have an STI and feel completely healthy, this is why regular testing is important.
