What is the test for HIV?

HIV is diagnosed with a blood test.

You can get tested at a GP clinic, sexual health clinic, university health services, or through community-based testing services in NSW.

Testing is private and confidential, and many services offer free or low-cost options.

You can also use a HIV self-test kit. These are available from many pharmacies, online providers and programs such as MyTest vending machines. Some self-tests use a simple finger-prick blood sample that you can do yourself at home.

It’s free and confidential.
