Privacy

This privacy statement explains what information the International Student Health Hub (the Hub) collects when you use this website, how we use it and how we protect it. It applies to all pages at internationalstudents.health.nsw.gov.au.

The Hub is run by the NSW Ministry of Health. We handle personal and health information in line with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW).

Information collected when you visit

When you visit this website, our systems and the analytics tools we use automatically record information such as:

  • your device’s IP address and general location (city or region, not your exact location)
  • the date and time of your visit
  • the pages you view and the documents you download
  • the website you came from
  • the type of browser, device and operating system you use.

We use this information in aggregate, to understand how the website is used and to improve it. We do not use it to identify you.

Cookies and third-party tools

This website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are needed for the website to work, and some help us understand how the website is used. The tools we use include:

  • Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager), to measure visits and page use
  • Hotjar, to understand how people use and move around pages
  • Google Maps, to show health services on a map and suggest suburbs when you search for a clinic
  • Google reCAPTCHA, to protect our forms from spam
  • UserWay, our accessibility tool, which remembers the display settings you choose.

These providers may store information outside Australia. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The website will still work, although some features (such as maps) may not.

Information you give us

You do not need to give us any personal information to read this website. Some features ask for information, and providing it is optional.

Nurse Nettie

When you send a question to Nurse Nettie, we ask for your email address so a nurse can reply. Your first name, age, postcode and gender are optional. Questions are answered by sexual health nurses from the NSW Sexual Health Infolink.

We only use your information to answer your question. We will not add your email address to any mailing list.

We will not share your information with other organisations unless the law requires it, or unless we need to protect you or someone else from a serious threat to life, health or safety. Where it is safe and practical, we will talk to you first.

Nurse Nettie is not an emergency service. If you need urgent help, call 000. For support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.

Find a clinic

When you search for a clinic, we ask for a suburb or postcode, and you can choose to tell us about your study, age range and access needs. We use this to show services near you and, in de-identified form, to understand who uses the Hub so we can improve it.

Newsletter

If you sign up to our newsletter, your name and email address are held by our email provider, Campaign Monitor, and are used only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Learning Hub

If you create an account for the Learning Hub, we keep your account details and your progress through the modules so you can return to them and receive certificates.

How we protect your information

We use appropriate security controls to protect the information we hold. It is kept only for as long as it is needed and is then securely deleted. No website can be completely secure, so please take care when sending personal information online.

When we may share information

We will not sell your information. We may disclose information where the law requires or allows it, for example to protect someone’s life, health or safety, or where use of this website gives rise to a suspicion that an offence has been committed.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask to see or correct personal information we hold about you, or make a privacy complaint, by contacting us. You can also contact the NSW Information and Privacy Commission.

This website links to other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their privacy statements.
